FAQs

Do you take insurance?

My team accepts the following insurances: Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, NYSHIP, and Oxford Freedom. If you would like to book an appointment using your insurance listed above, take a look at our providers to see who is the right fit for you.

If I do not accept your insurance, I can provide a superbill upon request for you to submit to insurance. A superbill is a receipt of the healthcare services you’ve already received and paid for with specific information listed, such as CPT (procedure codes) and ICD-10 (diagnosis codes). You can submit the superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for out-of-network services. Before I provide you a superbill you will need to confirm with your insurance company what your coverage includes.

When calling to verify your out-of-network nutrition counseling benefits, be sure to ask:

  • Are visits to an “out-of-network” Registered Dietitian Nutritionist reimbursable? Refer to MNT procedure codes 97802 and 97803.

  • Ask about diagnosis code Z71.3 and if it’s covered as preventative?

  • Is there a limit to the number of visits?

  • Is a physician/provider referral is required?

  • Do I have a deductible to meet before insurance pays?

How much do sessions cost?

Typically if using your health insurance, sessions are billed as preventative medicine and can be covered up to 100%. If you are considered “overweight” or “obese” sessions are more likely to be covered 100% but it really just depends on your health benefits! If planning on paying out of pocket, an initial session starts at $190 and follow up sessions start at $145. Pricing information can be found here.

What types of clients do you work with?

Emily here: I work with motivated individuals of all ages, backgrounds, gender orientations and locations. I have experience seeing clients with goals ranging from general nutrition, to treatment of diabetes, high cholesterol, weight loss, digestive disorders, PCOS and more! I do not see clients with a diagnosed/active eating disorder, however I am happy to refer you to dietitians who do specialize in eating disorders.

Note - Christine is also accepting new clients. You can learn more about the clients Christine works with here!

What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

All Registered Dietitians are also Nutritionists. But not every Nutritionist is a Dietitian. Technically anyone can call themselves a Nutritionist and there is no legally recognized qualification or educational standard. However, the title Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is reserved for those who have completed the rigorous academic and practical training established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics and fulfill continuing education requirements set forth by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. When choosing to work with a Registered Dietitian, you are agreeing to work with a qualified medical professional who can use a scientific approach to help you understand the science (and truth!) behind nutrition.

Will I have to cut out any of my favorite foods?

Never! All foods are welcome and YOU are in the drivers seat of your food choices and lifestyle habits. We will focus on developing sustainable & lifelong habits that include your favorite food groups in a more balanced way. We will focus on listening to your hunger/fullness cues, tuning into your cravings, managing emotional eating and most importantly, body acceptance. You will find that with this approach your energy and overall quality of life should improve long-term.

What does a typical session look like?

All sessions are conducted virtually - I see clients across the country! The initial session is an hour long and we will discuss your diet and medical history, lifestyle, sleep, stress, hydration, your current routine and more. Together, will set a few initial goals to work on. Follow ups are around 45 minutes where we will check in and build upon your goals and make any changes as needed. At the end of every session you will receive a session recap including your list of set goals, resources and handouts, recipes including in a meal plan and more!
